My summer studio is being christened ‘the Hildegard’ after my mother❤️. She was an amazing woman. An immigrant that lost her German citizenship when she married my Hungarian father and came to Canada as DPs in 1953 (disembarked in Quebec City), with little more than a suitcase and a few dollars. She made everything by hand, was a fabulous cook and worked in a clothing manufacturer on rue St. Laurent for over 25 years. She even went on strike and marched for better wages for that sweat shop. She was a marvellous storyteller, voracious reader and told me that she would have loved to be a writer. Nature was her church. Kindness was her religion. I think she would have loved my creative space and I hope her 😏 spirit feels free to visit often. You are also welcome to join me in,
